Winter blues and eagerly awaiting Saturday…

Right, I’m sick of this now. The ice, the snow, the cold, and of course the numb man bits from sitting on the instrument of torture (or turbo trainer as others call it) is getting quite old now. Add to that the fact that the weight is not coming off as quick as I’d like (despite being really quite anal about what goes in) and that my performance in next season’s time trials will hinge greatly on a combination of race fitness and the amount of bulk I’ve got to hoy round the course and we’ve got a slightly pissed off 22 Stone Cyclist. However, It’s rest week, so I’m doing gentle sessions and trying to stay off my feet. I’m good at that it turns out - and I’m enjoying the lack of pain!

There is a silver lining to this cloud of eternal doom that is Winter, indoor training and wrapping up like an eskimo every time I’m outside on the bike. The mornings are definitely getting lighter, so soon I’ll be riding over Bilsmoor in the mornings. The evenings will then start to get lighter too, and before you know it, I’m out on the Vag’s 10 course training. Can’t wait for that…

In the meantime, there’s been a change of plan. Lucy has twisted my arm and persuaded me to enter the Barnesbury Hilly 21 and use it as training. The mere fact that it’s got the word “hilly” in it means I’m not going to enjoy it, and I’m fairly certain it goes the wrong way up Middleton Bank (yes, THAT MIddleton Bank) I’m not particularly impressed. So here’s the thing, I suck at hills, I don’t like TTs over 10 miles, and I’m still be building myself up, so don’t expect me to get a good time in it, because I won’t, straight simple. It’s for training. Have I made that clear? Good. We can continue…

With the week spent indoors in the training room (you would call it a “kitchen” I guess) I live life one Saturday to another at the moment. The fact that I missed last Saturday due to snow (yes I know, I’m a wuss) means I can’t wait for this Saturday. I’m also looking forward to meeting our newest recruit, Kerry (she sounds quite fit unfortunately for me) who was out last week (yeah, yeah, snow, cold, wuss, etc, etc) and seeing Suzanne again to discuss exactly why on Earth she likes Alberto Contador (I mean, come on)…

Now… it’s time to try and make head or tail of this calorie information “Giant Lady” sent me…

Share the calorie information MJ. I’m excited about meeting Kerry too, I can’t wait for the ride to Pont with her :D

Stop fixating on the weight, you don’t have to shoot out of the gate in front man, there are other skills and other goals and it will come off eventually, you know that, or you should. mmmkay??

I’m really looking forward to Saturday. Hope I don’t break anything before then.

I’m a bit hurt that you aren’t looking forward to seeing me though :(

Ha! You’ll be fine, Miss “I hit 31mph on the flat” ;)

  4. You’re dead right about this winter thing. Even my normal good humour and patience is being tested!

As far as the HB21 in March goes you are in the same boat as everyone else. It is only March and will be the first outing for a lot of the riders.

Well that and the few extra stone I carry ;)
